Petition the US and NATO to stop Russia's attack on Ukraine!
The Issue
To all my fellow Americans and friends around the world,
Battles are fought every day all over the globe. For peace, for land, for resources, and beliefs among other reasons. Many of us know of peace while others have been fighting for us to keep it that way. The last World War ended in 1945 with the help of the United States and the Soviet Union (What is now Russia) after the unconditional surrender of Germany and Japan. World War II officially began with the German invasion of Poland in 1939 dragging Great Britain and France into the war and then the United States with the bombing of Pearl Harbor, but prior to that and after was a mixture of pacts, agreements, and betrayal. With the Soviet Union being one of the major aggressors alongside Germany. Since then, throughout the years America along with 29 other nations formed a strong friendship and forged an alliance more powerful than any army in the world. This alliance is known as NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization).
WWII lasted six years from 1939 to 1945 and killed over 35 to 60 million people directly and indirectly. A global conflict of such proportions has not been seen for over 70 years.
Today we are facing an eerily similar situation with China looking to invade Taiwan, India clashing with China and Pakistan, Iran trying to develop nuclear weapons, and North Korea testing nuclear-capable ICBMs, just to name a few. However, on Thursday, February 24th, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine. As of March 26th, since the invasion, approx. 21,000 people have died, 10 million displaced and resulting in around $119 billion in property damage according to Reuters. Creating events that have not been seen since WWII. We have all seen the images shown by various news agencies and journalists in and around the conflict. Images of innocent civilians and children being targeted by the Russian military to demoralize and starve the people into submission and surrender. Russia is even reaching out to allies and supporters to help them increase the attacks and get Ukraine to fall according to some.
The soldiers in Ukraine have shown immense bravery and skill with almost no air force and land power that is dwarfed by the 2nd largest military in the world......Russia. Ukraine is a free country of good people with good hearts and is also the 9th largest producer of wheat in the world. This will undoubtedly cause a shortage in the food supply. Already people in Ukraine are dying from hunger, dehydration, and a lack of medicine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has shown great courage and has been key in uniting the people of Ukraine and keeping the morale high. Unfortunately, the sheer size, manpower, and the number of military vehicles and weapons in Russia’s arsenal will probably grind Ukraine’s military down. With Russia getting support from other countries like Belarus, Iran, and possibly others, the fall of Ukraine is inevitable, even without Russia's allies. Though the soldiers and the people of Ukraine will not stop defending their home from the brutality Putin's army is delivering until their final breath, does it have to end like that?
We should unite and demand that the leaders of NATO and its member countries do more than just supply weapons, humanitarian aid, and money to Ukraine. Ukraine's airspace must be closed, and the Russian army must be stopped. If Ukraine falls, Europe could fall, and the domino effect could be disastrous for the world. Because history has proved that Russia is power hungry and will stop at nothing to get it. If Russia continues to invade and conquer without being checked, what's next? Does China invade Taiwan? Does North Korea attack the south? Nuclear missiles and bombs fall by rogue nations with evil dictators hellbent on domination and control? Is this a joke? Is this just more hysteria? No, my friends, I don’t think so. This is already in motion. The world is already hurting, and many countries are desperate. What kind of signal will we send if we don’t do all that we can to stop this? We cannot draw a line; it has already been crossed. The time is now to show the world that we want peace, we want stability, and we will not stand by and watch the innocent people of Ukraine get murdered in front of us.
By doing nothing more than what is already being done, the free nations of the world certainly won't be free for much longer and the death toll will be much greater. By stopping Russia, its allies, and its supporters we will send a message to the world.
A message that says, “We are free! We will stay free and if you challenge that freedom, we will meet that challenge! We will fight to protect our own freedom and defend those that cannot defend themselves!”
Please sign this petition. America and its NATO allies need to know that we support a fierce resolution to Russia's brutality on Ukraine when diplomacy is failing. It is a necessary sacrifice to ensure a peaceful and free world. Thank you for your support.
