UPDATE FEBRUARY 5, 2024:
TODAY THE THEME IS BEACH.
P.E.I. is well known for its beautiful beaches. However, it is definitely not a beach day today, as we had a major snow storm.
The PC Government has left the mentally ill HIGH AND DRY. Many will be abandoned and left without a Community Treatment Order should they cease their medications. P.E.I. Islanders need and deserve the New Brunswick CTO model, deemed the BEST IN CANADA!
I am not prepared to BURY MY HEAD IN THE SAND and pretend that the restrictive P.E.I. Community Treatment Order is acceptable for the mentally ill. I have chosen to MAKE WAVES, drawing attention to this life-threatening situation.
I AM SWIMMING AGAINST THE PC GOVERNMENT TIDE. They legislated the restrictive CTO, despite the fact they were provided with the document, CTO EVOLUTION AND COMPARISONS, prior to the vote. It was written by Dr. Richard O’Reilly and Dr. John Gray, CTO Experts. It was clear that the proposed P.E.I. CTO would fail mentally ill Islanders.
I have DRAWN A LINE IN THE SAND. I am warning the PC Government that lives could be lost if the CTO is not amended in the 2024 spring session. I am JUMPING IN WITH BOTH FEET and fully committed to fight this battle!
It is my desire to be the LIGHTHOUSE IN THE STORM, providing support for the mentally ill during this challenging time.
I am raising a YELLOW FLAG warning that the P.E.I. CTO without an amendment in the 2024 spring session is putting lives at risk!
I am determined to TURN THE TIDE and reverse the restrictive CTO
decision. This takes courage and I need Islanders' support! We now have 1802 signatures on the petition. PLEASE SIGN!
A community treatment order ensures that a mentally ill person stays on their medication and provides them with a healthy life in the community. P.E.I. now has a CTO, but it is so restrictive that Andrew and many others will not qualify.
I received this post from Cheryl Wertman. "I’m a retired nurse who used to work downtown TO with street involved folks. I’ve seen many Andrew’s and feel CTOs should be much more readily accessible when persons are unable to care for themselves and are at risk of imminent health and danger."

The present CTO is like giving a battery operated truck to a child without the battery. And saying, "The truck is good enough for now, I will give you the battery to operate it after "24" months." The P.E.I. CTO is as useless as this!
In my opinion, I do not believe that the PC Party Ministers and MLAs realized the negative impact the restrictive CTO would have on Islanders, like Andrew and others. I believe in my heart they will amend the CTO in the 2024 Spring Session, because it is the RIGHT THING TO DO!
