UPDATE FEBRUARY 3, 2024:
THE THEME TODAY IS FURNITURE AND HOUSEHOLD ITEMS.
Having our son homeless on the streets of Toronto was not a BED OF ROSES. Tracking him was like SEARCHING FOR A NEEDLE IN A HAYSTACK! We were on TENTERHOOKS every day worrying about his safety.
Some days I was a BASKET CASE and other days things weren’t so bad. We were thankful when THE TABLES TURNED and Minister of Health and Wellness, Mark McLane, signed the ministerial order for Andrew’s medical transfer home.
But now we have a major problem. The PC Party legislated the most restrictive CTO in Canada and few Islanders will qualify. This is not a STORM IN A TEACUP, as lives could be lost.
I have been lobbying for a CTO amendment in the 2024 spring session and put the PC Party ON THE HOT SEAT. I have asked difficult and embarrassing questions. I make no apologies for this, as we need to IRON OUT the CTO issues before it is too late.
I do not intend to let the PC Party OFF THE HOOK. I also will not stand by and let them SWEEP THE CTO AMENDMENT UNDER THE RUG.
I DID NOT WAKE UP ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE BED this morning. I am passionate about the CTO amendment.
All the time and effort locating Andrew, bringing him home, admitting him to hospital, and administering medication will be DOWN THE TOILET, if this is not supplemented with a CTO.
Does someone have to literally KICK THE BUCKET before you amend the CTO and make it more flexible?
I have read the document EVOLUTION AND COMPARIONS written by Dr. Richard O’Reilly and Dr. John Gray. In fact, I went through it with a FINE-TOOTHED COMB. There was no doubt in my mind that the mentally ill on P.E.I. were going to be SHORT CHANGED with the proposed CTO.
It is not my intention to be a WET BLANKET by disapproving and criticizing the P.E.I. CTO. My goal is to protect the mentally ill.
The PC Party should have ensured that Islanders received the CUTTING-EGDE latest and most advanced CTO available. They did not have to look too far, as the New Brunswick CTO is considered the BEST IN CANADA!
A community treatment order ensures that a mentally ill person stays on their medication and provides them with a healthy life in the community. P.E.I. now has a CTO but it is so restrictive that Andrew and many others do not qualify.

The present CTO is like giving a battery operated truck to a child without the battery. And saying, "The truck is good enough for now, I will give you the battery to operate it after "24" months." The P.E.I. CTO is as useless as this!
In my opinion, I do not believe that the PC Party Ministers and MLAs realized the negative impact the restrictive CTO would have on Islanders, like Andrew and others. I believe in my heart they will amend the CTO in the 2024 Spring Session, because it is the RIGHT THING TO DO!
DO YOU THINK THE PC PARTY WILL DO THE RIGHT THING?
