UPDATE FEBRUARY 1, 2024:
THE THEME TODAY IS LIGHTHOUSES AND NAUTICAL TERMS.
There’s something mystical about a lighthouse. My mother was born in the Cape Bear Lighthouse, P.E.I. as her father was the lighthouse keeper.
Lighthouses are built to withstand harsh conditions. Our family has recently GONE THROUGH A LIFE’S STORM. However, we thankfully rescued our son, from the Toronto streets, where he was homeless.
I have been endeavouring to provide a SAFE HARBOUR for others throughout my life. Most recently I am challenging the P.E.I. PC Government to amend the CTO in the 2024 spring session.
While some look at a lighthouse and think about the safety it provides, others feel that a lighthouse symbolizes danger. The PC Party believes their Community Treatment Order will NAVIGATE the mentally ill to safety, but I view their restrictive CTO as dangerous.
The lighthouse light says, “BEWARE OF THE ROCKY SHORE!” The ROCKY SHORE is the fact that few Islanders will qualify for the CTO.
Lighthouses symbolize a BEACON OF HOPE. Throughout history, they have been associated with resilience, overcoming obstacles and navigating through life’s challenges. I believe the Community Treatment Order is a BEACON for the mentally ill, but the PC Party has thrown up obstacles.
Will the PC Party help me NAVIGATE through these TURBULENT OCEAN WATERS by throwing a flexible CTO LIFELINE to those suffering from mental illness? New Brunswick has a flexible CTO. Why can’t P.E.I. have one also? Do Islanders not deserve the best CTO available?
Do you think the PC Government will allow those suffering from a mental illness to SINK OR SWIM? Let’s hope the PC Party decides to be the GUIDING LIGHT by amending the CTO and bringing everyone SAFELY TO SHORE.
A community treatment order ensures that a mentally ill person stays on their medication and provides them with a healthy life in the community. P.E.I. now has a CTO but it is so restrictive that Andrew and many others do not qualify.

The present CTO is like giving a battery operated truck to a child without the battery. And saying, "The truck is good enough for now, I will give you the battery to operate it after "24" months." The P.E.I. CTO is as useless as this!
In my opinion, I do not believe that the PC Party Ministers and MLAs realized the negative impact the restrictive CTO would have on Islanders, like Andrew and others. I believe in my heart they will amend the CTO in the 2024 Spring Session, because it is the RIGHT THING TO DO!
