UPDATE JANUARY 31, 2024:
THE THEME TODAY IS HOUSE, HOME AND CARDS.
“Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam. Be it ever so humble, THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME.” Home is where you lay your head. But what if the only place to lay your head is on a cement sidewalk? We had the gut-wrenching experience of seeing our son living homeless on the streets of Toronto.
A miracle brought our son back home. When I think of home, I think of baking and cooking for family and friends. YOU CAN'T MAKE AN OMELETTE WITHOUT BREAKING A FEW EGGS! It is impossible to do something good or accomplish an important task without encountering some problems or making some sacrifices. Our important task was to save our son’s life and we HIT MANY ROADBLOCKS.
Yes, both Lloyd and I made many sacrifices, but our son is now in hospital, warm and safe from the winter elements. He is taking medication and is making steady but slow progress. He is running each day, bowling with his friends and playing SkipBo with us. I get to hug and kiss Andrew every time he visits. But all this could go OUT THE WINDOW, should he cease medication upon discharge, due to the symptom of anosognosia.
The P.E.I. PC Government legislated a community treatment order which ensures the mentally ill stay on their medications. However, they have thrown up a restrictive ROADBLOCK preventing many mentally ill from qualifying.
The PC Government CTO is built like a HOUSE OF CARDS on a precarious foundation destined to catastrophically fail. It has inherent weaknesses and flaws. IT IS LIKE A HOUSE BUILT ON SAND.
I am trying to BRING HOME the fact that a CTO amendment will save lives!
I believe WHERE THERE IS A WILL THERE IS A WAY. I will not let the CTO amendment GO OUT OF SIGHT AND OUT OF MIND. ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS. Mama Bear will never give up!
Will the PC Party have the courage to SHUFFLE THE CARDS and amend the CTO in the 2024 spring session? Otherwise, their HOUSE OF CARDS could GO UP IN SMOKE. IT IS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY!
A Community Treatment Order will ensure a mentally ill person stays on their medication in the community and out of the hospital. The following is an analogy.
A community treatment order ensures that a mentally ill person stays on their medication and provides them with a healthy life in the community. P.E.I. now has a CTO but it is so restrictive that Andrew and many others do not qualify.

The present CTO is like giving a battery operated truck to a child without the battery. And saying, "The truck is good enough for now, I will give you the battery to operate it after "24" months." The P.E.I. CTO is as useless as this!
In my opinion, I do not believe that the PC Party Ministers and MLAs realized the negative impact the restrictive CTO would have on Islanders, like Andrew and others. I believe in my heart they will amend the CTO in the 2024 Spring Session, because it is the RIGHT THING TO DO!
DO YOU THINK THE PC PARTY WILL DO THE RIGHT THING?
