Very surprisingly, I have come very close, but have not been able to persuade the Davidson County, NC Commissioners to pass an anti-tethering bill. There is at least one Commissioner who claims he will not be "bullied" into this decision. I for the life of me cannot imagine why saving hundreds of thousands of dogs has to do with bullying anyone, and why his ego needs to be given any consideration at all in this matter. I am not giving up hope. I have spoken to the Commissioners 3 times, and some like the idea, and one Comissioner even commented that we made one of the best presentations Animal Advocates have ever made, and it was printed in the newspaper, that he said that. NOW, a chained dog in Davidson County has died from a snake bite. The dog was found by one of the Volunteers that visits chained dog owners, to try to educate them, and volunteers to take them & is sometimes successful in getting the owners to give her the dog. The kill rate in the Davidson County, NC Animal Shelter is very high. A lot of reform is needed here, and a Committee was formed to help this reform happen, but the dog chaining issue has been swept under the rug. My friend that volunteers wrote a post on Facebook about the dog that she recently found dead from a snake bite. She comments that she was very close to persuading the owners to surrendering the dog. Now it is too late. I shared this post on my "Dogs Without Chains" facebook page. I was unable to share a link to her post on here for some reason. (It is the 3rd post down on the page, about this dog that died) I refuse to give up on the Davidson County, NC Commissioners. Join me in my crusade by sharing this petition, and helping me fight for this dog, and all dogs who are suffering in the heat of summer, languishing on the end of a chain, and the miserable bite of winter. One Commissioner said "We can't tell people what to do with their dogs." Well, to me, that's like saying we can't tell people what to do in society, so we might as well allow drugs, rape & murder. I know we won't be able to get every dog off a chain by passing laws, but at least if it could be on the books as illegal, it will eliminate a lot of it. People still rape, murder, steal & plunder even though it is illegal, but if it wasn't illegal, what would society be like then??? People who are uneducated about chaining, carry litter after litter of puppies to the shelter. I heard of one lady who carried a total of 3 litters, 32 puppies to the shelter. She did this instead of spaying her dog. She actually thought she was doing the shelter a favor by giving them cute puppies, and her dog kept getting pregnant because the dog was on a chain, and could not avoid it. So those who think shelter numbers rise when chaining is prohibited, they might initially, but it's only a one time rise, where as people who don't spay, and chain, keep a constant supply of numbers flowing into that shelter, so it's a constant number, not a one time rise like with an initial pass of anti-tethering. See what I'm sayin? If any of you know any celebrities that you can reach out to, that can help us by standing with us in this fight, and being a voice for all the dogs that suffer day in and day out. We need a strong celebrity that can really bring attention to the misery, as this is not even on the radar of most people, as they go about their every day lives.
