If you have not paid a visit to your Local Lawmakers, now is the time! Find out where they stand on the issue of tethering. Read this Petition in full, to see how to guide them into a ban on tethering. County Commissioners, and City Councilmen do not hold Animals as their top Priority. They are most concerned with Public Safety, and Property Values. Tethering is both! As a Realtor, when I listed some vacant lots recently in NC across from 4 angry, snarling, chained dogs, it became apparent to me that this property will never sell, thus chaining is a PROPERTY VALUE issue! Who wants to buy a piece of land or a home next to a chained dog? Not many! It is also a Public Safety issue! The law requires a fence for a pool, why? So people won't fall in and drown. Someone is more likely to get attacked by a dog that breaks loose from a chain, than someone could fall over into someone else's pool. The law requires a fence for a pool but not a dog? Having a dog is a CHOICE. An elective CHOICE. If you can convince your City & County Leaders that it is a barbaric, and cruel, yet issue regarding Public Safety & Finance, you will get their attention. You must also convince them that the number of calls won't increase. The number of calls is likely already high, because of incessant barking by a miserable chained dog, or by a concerned citizen that calls countless times (as I do) over a dog chained in lightning, rain, ice, wind & snow. You must also convince them that the shelters will not become overcrowded. They are overcrowded now, because chained dogs cannot escape becoming impregnated. I am starting a Volunteer Group to build fences. The main requirement, besides obviously a lack of funds, will be that the pet must be spayed or neutered. If someone is so irresponsible, that they cannot build their own fence, they do not need more animals. Best of luck, and reach out to me if you need help!
