The Drive with a Heart of Gold Change.org petition, started by Pamela, is a heartfelt call to action in memory of lives lost and those injured—both people and pets—due to distracted driving.
California’s existing laws prohibit hand-held device use while driving, but
enforcement is lax, and penalties are insufficient to create meaningful deterrence.
Pamela founded DrivewithaHeartofGold.org, a nonprofit organization, to advocate for stronger distracted driving laws and create public educational materials.
The nonprofit actively engages with legislators, attends transportation committee meetings, and promotes awareness through events, media outreach, and online campaigns.
The movement has garnered momentum, including a meeting between Pamela and State Senator Ben Allen—a critical step in moving the legislation forward that will entail, but is not limited to:
a) getting stricter laws with more consequences to deter individuals from driving distracted on mobile phones;
b) proposing amending bill AB1785 for revision to include increased fines, a registered database for distracted drivers that, just like drunk drivers if injure, or kill innocent people or animals; get mandatory jail time;
c) discussing future public service announcements and podcasts by Drive with a Heart of Gold.org to increase awareness to put your phone down while driving;
d) suggest putting monitors in cars that detect motion of phone, especially if individual causes accident that injures another person or animal;
e) irresponsible distracted driver placed in a national database for distracted driving offender;
e) Michel Shane, the creator of the documentary titled 21 Miles, about the death of his daughter Emily whose life was stolen on the dangerous Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California attended this meeting.
Michel and Pamela are advocates of getting safer roads for you, your families, your pets, children, and loved ones. Please check out Michel’s award-winning documentary on the dangerous Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California.
