A few days ago, I received an email from The Scottish Parliament’s Constitution, Europe, External Affairs and Culture Committee, who are aware of Radio Scotland’s recently proposed schedule changes – particularly concerning classical, jazz and traditional music programmes and other recent developments such as the BBC’s digital-first agenda and its possible impact on the output of BBC Scotland.

The Culture Committee will be looking to take evidence from BBC Scotland on the proposed rescheduling in the context of the wider question of the impact of the digital-first agenda on broadcasting output in Scotland.

Prior to this, the Committee is looking to hear from experts in this area on the importance of showcasing these genres and supporting emerging musical talent and how this can be delivered. Nicola Benedetti, Director of the Piping Centre, Finlay MacDonald, and myself have been requested to appear in The Scottish Parliament to give evidence to the Committee. This session will be public and broadcast live on February 23rd in the morning https://www.scottishparliament.tv/
