The dub of Saiyuki Reload Blast finished airing on Funimation this past Monday. The dialogue in the dub is organic and well written, both in humorous and in heartfelt moments. While I missed hearing the original English voice actors who portrayed Hakkai and Gojyo, I was very glad to hear the original voice actors of Goku, Sanzo and Kougaiji. It’s been a pleasure to watch this dub and I’d love to see Funimation do more. Which brings me to the point of this update. Now that Saiyuki has once again resurfaced before an American audience, a new wave of enthusiasm has washed over the fandom. I am no longer writing to fans of the original series, but now also to new fans who just recently picked this series up. Many of you have just recently signed this petition. It’s been incredible to see the revival of this fandom, and I think we ought to let Funimation know of it as well. There are four Saiyuki OVAs as yet undubbed– Saiyuki Premium [2Eps], Saiyuki: The Jade Pearl [1Ep], Saiyuki Burial [3Eps] & Saiyuki Gaiden: Kouga no Shou [1Ep]. If we hope that the remaining Saiyuki mangas will be translated into English, it is important that we remind publishing houses and studios of the interest there is in Saiyuki. As such, please write to Funimation’s Twitter, Youtube and Official pages, requesting that the remaining OVAs be dubbed into English! If these properties are dubbed into English, then that is another way we can support Kazuya Minekura and her beautiful work.
