Your email TODAY can defend the Old Jewish Cemetery in Vilna
Nov 10, 2020 —
If you would like to stay informed and further support our efforts to
keep the Vilnius Convention Center AWAY from the Old Jewish Cemetery, please write to me at firstname.lastname@example.org Here is the help that we need TODAY, Tuesday, November 10.
The Lithuanian government is about to approve funding for a Vilnius
Convention Center Project that will desecrate the Old Jewish Cemetery at that site. We have until TODAY, Tuesday, November 10 to send emails to the parliament's Budget and Finance Committee to propose that they heed our petition, "Please Move New Vilnius Convention Center Project AWAY from the Old Jewish Cemetery". Please send your email today! Be sure to add your name at the end of the email. It is absolutely important to speak up at this time! You will find more information here.
SUBJECT: Proposal regarding Project XIIIP-5304
Dear Budget and Finance Committee,
I respectfully suggest that you not provide any funding in 2021-2023 for
the Vilnius Sports and Congress Building Complex Project (“Vilniaus
sporto ir kongresu rumu pastatu komplekso projektas”). The Soviets desecrated the Vilnius Jewish Cemetery with this building and the planned activities there will further injure the people who were buried
there and all who care about them.
Please heed the 52,000 people worldwide who have signed Ruta Bloshtein’s petition “Please Move New Vilnius Convention Center Project AWAY from the Old Jewish Cemetery”.
Please respect the ruling by the world’s senior authority among the
rabbinate in the Lithuanian Jewish (Litvak) tradition, Rabbi Chaim
Kanievsky, and the rabbinical court in Bnei Brak.
I respectfully disagree on this issue with the Lithuanian Jewish
Community led by Faina Kukliansky and with the Committee for the
Preservation of Jewish Cemeteries in Europe. They have no right to
represent my interests in defending the sanctity of this cemetery.
