Please help us to preserve the Stafford Garden Village for retirees
The issue
Stafford Garden Village, at 348 Stafford Rd, Stafford, QLD 4053, has been a place for over 50 retirees to find peace and stability in their golden years. But now, these seniors are facing the heart-wrenching possibility of being uprooted from the homes they've grown to love. The village's committee asserts that there is no special-use classification for our village, threatening the serenity and security these retirees deserve after a lifetime of contribution.
The residents, many of whom have lived in Stafford Garden Village for decades, invested not only their savings but also their dreams into these homes, fully anticipating they would be their safe shelters. The Village offers a unique community that is specially designed to cater to the needs of the retirees, with accessible facilities and supports that make daily lives easier and safer. Displacing these residents will not only cause profound personal and health hardships but will also place an unnecessary burden on local social infrastructure.
We respectfully request that the Stafford Garden Village remain dedicated to its intended Development Approval purpose for a retirement use, and not be converted into general-purpose accommodation.
The village was established to provide a safe, peaceful, and appropirate living environment for older residents and retirees. Maintaining this purpose is important not only for current residents, but also for the long-term character, security, and viability of the Stafford Community.
We recognise and appreciate the important work carried out by workers. However, we believe that housing arrangements for employees should be provided separately from accommodation specifically intended for retirees, wherever reasonably possible.
Besides, the chaging to general-purpose accommodation could also place addictional pressure on the existing parking facilities. There are only 15 residents parking for 56 units in the village. It does not have sufficient parking to accommodate increased numbers of vehicles, which could lead to parking shortages and inconvenience for the residents, visitors and neighbourhood.
Furthermore, the local government and planning bodies should work closely with community representatives to proactively safeguard areas like Stafford Garden Village for retirees, acknowledging their tailored environments and essential benefits.
By signing this petition, you support the cause of many seniors who rely on this village as more than just a place to live—it's their sanctuary. You help prevent the devastating ripple effects that would follow their forced relocation, and advocate for a simple action that would preserve the dignity and happiness of those who have given so much to their communities throughout their lives. Join us in preserving the Stafford Garden Village for our beloved retirees. Sign this petition today to ensure they can enjoy the peace and stability they so rightfully deserve.
