Celebrate Small Victories: Perception Makes a World of Difference

Good morning, advocates,
It's been a while since my last update, but I wanted to take the time this morning to reinvigorate some campaign excitement. We tend to get so wrapped up in what's wrong and hurting us as a community, that we may forget to celebrate the small wins. Throughout the day, people with type 1 diabetes have a TON of small wins. We are constantly managing the highs and lows, fighting hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia every moment, managing our nutrition and exercise levels so we don't suffer consequences, and so much more.
Type 1 diabetes is a frustrating disease. There's no doubt about that. It literally affects every part of the body. It's time to give yourself some credit today, and reflect on every year of health. Our system isn't making it easier for us right now, but we are fighting, because we are T1D-strong! I truly believe this. When we put our hearts and minds to something, we can achieve anything.
We have a right to earn our lives. Dare I say we have a right to earn lower insulin costs throughout our country? From the comments alone, I think many of you would agree.
Today, I received a 10-year medal of honor for diabetes management from Eli Lilly. You can get the same medal of recognition through signing up on their website. While it's actually been almost 16 years for me, it's nice to feel recognized in this small way. Perception can change anything, so I urge you to see the good in the bad and look towards brighter days ... they're ahead, so long as we're willing to keep earning them and advocating. It's hard work, but it's nothing we haven't done before.
You are T1D-strong! You are strong, period, whoever you are, whatever disease you are managing. When we work together in harmony to affect positive change, anything is possible.
Keep moving and looking forward. Be present, but mindful of the future. Let's get those insulin prices capped across the U.S.A. Are you in?
