Last night news was sent out that the plan for unification has been revised. It is now being recommended that only five of the ten schools originally on the list are up for closure. Columbian is NOT on that list!!! While it would be nice to call this a victory, it is not over yet! Although our beloved Columbian has survived this elimination round, our community will not be pacified with a short term resolution!!!
The Small Schools Resolution was approved by the board in June 2021. DPS School Board Vice President Anderson has stated he will motion to rescind the small schools resolution on November 17th. As long as that “resolution” is in place, Dr. Marrero will continue to come for our small schools. We CANNOT let this happen!! Please see the link below for more information regarding this “resolution”.
Please continue to send EACH member of the board an email individually. If you have already sent emails to the members, PLEASE continue to send them as we need them ALL to be on the same page as Vice President Anderson. You can even copy and paste what you’ve already sent, just make sure you’re sending it to each email listed individually. We need them to know how much we love our communities and the small schools that are the heart of those communities!
Vice President Anderson has stated 11 hours of comment is expected this Monday, November 14th. Individuals are allowed 3 minutes to speak. That means a TON of people signed up!! We NEED you!!! Please still plan on attending the public comment section on November 14, 2022 beginning at 4:30pm at 1860 Lincoln St, if you signed up to speak.
