Yesterday was the second community meeting held at Columbian Elementary. This meeting was to be attended by a DPS Board Member. Unfortunately, this did not occur. Families and staff were informed prior to the meeting a board member would not be present. Why is that? Does the community of this small school facing closure not deserve to be able to voice their opinions and concerns face-to-face? Were board members too busy to attend? Were they afraid of what they’d be facing because the Columbian Community has been the most vocal about their frustrations? Did someone advise them not to attend? I can’t tell you……and they can’t either because they didn’t show up like they said they would. Please continue to send emails to the board members and let them know about the slap in the face delivered to the community of Columbian when they chose not to speak with the community face-to-face. Let them know this demonstrated just how much they care about our children. With all of your support, we WILL be heard! We are small but we are mighty! We are Columbian.

Please also take the time to view the story below regarding parents opinions about the Columbian closure. They’re asking the right questions, Dr. Marrero. However, it appears you and the board cannot or will not provide the answers.
