By the close of business today, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council members had apparently still not received the Chief Executive's Part 8 Report with the latest revised proposals for Shanganagh Park.
What does this mean?
- Councillors won’t have adequate time to review this important report on public feedback and evaluate any changes prior to the crucial vote at 5pm this Monday 12th Feb
- Key stakeholder groups (park users, sports clubs and resident groups) have insufficient opportunity to review and lobby Councillors for any changes
This is a slap in the face for transparency, accountability, good governance and the credibility of Council staff involved. Expecting volunteer Councillors and community groups to spend their weekends digesting the report is unacceptable.
It’s almost as if the Council don’t want our elected representatives to have too much time to meaningfully review these controversial, divisive and widely opposed plans…
Have your say and demand Councillors adjourn the meeting under Standing Order 19 to defer a vote for 2-4weeks until all stakeholders have had an opportunity to give the report the attention it deserves.
It might not change anything, but it will at least restore much needed trust and credibility to local government and enable Councillors (in an election year) to demonstrate leadership and a commitment to proper public engagement.
If you have not already contacted the Councillors, please do so before Monday - contact details and an email template are available at http://chng.it/sDPX9cppgT and don’t forget to sign and share the petition at www.change.org/SaveShanganaghPark
