A quick update as things will start to move pretty fast…
On 5th January An Bord Pleanala made a determination that the latest (and still widely opposed and deeply flawed) DLRCOCO proposals for Shanganagh Park did NOT require an Environmental Impact Assessment. While this was a questionable decision at best that ignored most of the valid arguments contained within 45+ public submissions (see the Inspector’s Report at https://www.pleanala.ie/en-ie/case/316312) a Judicial Review (again!) is being considered.
In the meantime and more worrying, DLR are presenting their Chief Executive’s Report to Councillors this week in advance of a vote on Monday 12 February by Councillors to approve, amend or reject the proposals. We hope to get sight of this report and its findings as have little faith given past experience that any heed will have been paid to the overwhelming and documented public opposition to these plans while more viable and sustainable alternatives exist that deliver for sport, the community and the biodiversity of Shankill and neighbouring areas.
Please contact DLR Councillors - in particular those from the Killiney-Shankill Ward (see https://www.dlrcoco.ie/council-democracy/dlr-councillors) and demand they take the necessary steps to reject current Council plans and instead prioritise the rewilding and restoration of the Park and upgrade/enhance existing sports facilities to improve playability and accessibility, thereby preserving the Park for generations to come.
Thank you!
