Please Help Needy Seniors Reduce Subsidized Homecare Costs

The Issue

I am a recipient of subsidized home care, a service we rely on every day. Recently, we have experienced significant financial stress due to the escalating costs imposed by NL Health. Like many others, our family is feeling the strain of these burgeoning costs.

The formula used by NL Health to determine the clients share of cost for subsidized home care was developed in September 2016, since then the cost of living has escalated, therefore; the annual exemption amount of $21000 (couple) And 13000 (single) needs to be increased to reflect this reality.

In our province, an aging population necessitates home care service for many. According to the Canadian Institute for Health Information, over 30% of seniors (65+) in Newfoundland and Labrador reported having one or more disabilities in 2016, increasing their dependence on such essential support services. Yet, under the current NL Health regulations, the financial burden of these services on families like ours continues to rise.

This situation calls for immediate action. We urge NL Health to reassess their current pricing structure for subsidized home care and implement measures to prevent unmanageable increases. By doing so, they can provide affordable and accessible healthcare to those in need, such as myself.

We implore all individuals touched by this issue or those who empathize with our situation, to add their voice to this petition. Your commitment can make a significant difference in the lives of many who depend on subsidized home care. Please sign this petition and beg the Honourable John Hogan, K.C.Minister of Health and Community Services
Attorney General Government House Leader  to reduce subsidized home care costs, by raising the yearly exemption to 25,000 per year (couple) And 17000 per year (single).
