Gracias for signing the petition. Please share with many more people before the upcoming YSGA board meeting.
Please attend the meeting if you are local and join us. We want to stay present and focused on the Hungry Hollow, asking the YSGA and the Yolo Board of Supervisors to recognize that the new well permit process for the focus areas is an insufficient measure. The "significant and unreasonable depletion of supply conditions" still needs to be addressed and it will require additional regulatory measures, with market incentives to reduce groundwater pumping.
New wells will continue to expand the conversion of historically non-irrigated lands to water intensive agricultural practices. Asking for a moratorium to land conversions may be too much to ask from a market economy, but there are options to require all wells to be metered and economic incentives to price the true cost of water, beyond the pumping costs. A reasonable request is to not approve new wells until the water budget study is completed and analyzed in public.
Please help disseminate the petition during the next ten days, gracias, ricardo
