EBN Supporters,
We are reaching out with a heartfelt plea for your support in seeking justice for our beloved family member, Eric B. Nelams, who was tragically murdered on September 26, 2003, at the age of 32.
The Story of Eric Nelams – More Than a Name or Statistic
Eric was more than just a name. He was a Son, Brother, Father and a man whose life deeply mattered. Born and raised in Columbus, Georgia, Eric was raised in a close-knit family. His presence left a lasting impact on everyone he knew, whether through his kindness, his sense of humor or the way he carried himself with strength and authenticity. He had dreams for his future, plans he was working toward and a heart full of love for his family and friends.
To us, Eric wasn’t just a victim, he was family. He was the one who made us laugh, who looked out for his loved ones and who carried himself with purpose and confidence. His Mother, Annie & Sister, Cathy, continue to honor his memory, not just in grief, but in determination—to ensure that justice is served and that his story is never forgotten. The profound void left by his absence fuels our relentless pursuit of justice, as we strive to find closure and peace for our family.
The Call for Action
Eric’s case is one of many cold cases in Alabama. According to Project Cold Case, from 1980 to 2019, there were 20,003 homicides in Alabama, with 7,893 still unsolved. These numbers represent real people—sons, daughters, parents and siblings—whose families are still waiting for answers, just like we are.
Phenix City Police Department have stated that they’ve “exhausted all leads and the case will remain in their jurisdiction.” We have updated our petition to request that the Alabama Attorney General's Cold Case Unit lead the investigation into Eric's case, rather than asking for it to be reopened. This change reflects our understanding that, while the Phenix City Police Department asserts the case is active and has never been closed, it remains unsolved with no recent investigative progress. By requesting that the Attorney General's Cold Case Unit lead the investigation, our goal is to bring dedicated resources and renewed focus to Eric's case, leveraging specialized expertise in handling cases that have remained unsolved for extended periods.

Why This Matters?
Eric’s life was cut short, but his story is not over. By supporting our petition, you are standing with a grieving family, a community and countless others who believe that justice should never be neglected. Eric was a loving husband, father, a dedicated son and a cherished brother. His absence has left a void that can never be filled and our memories of him fuel our determination to seek justice. Your advocacy can make a difference, bringing us one step closer to the closure and accountability we desperately seek.
A $15,000 combined reward is being offered by the Governor of Alabama, Central Alabama Crimestoppers and Higher Hope Foundation for information that leads to an arrest and conviction. If you have any information, no matter how small it may seem, please contact Central Alabama Crimestoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867) (anonymous tips accepted) or Phenix City Police Department at 334-448-2836.
