Playmates Toys - Please make MMPR two-packs based on the old VHS covers
The Issue
In 2024, Hasbro announced the "Power Rangers: Lightning Collection" toyline was going to be put on hiatus and that they made a deal with Playmates Toys to make new toys based on "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers", which started the "Power Rangers" franchise and ran for three seasons from 1993 to 1995 on the Fox Kids network. However, most of the monsters from "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" were not made into six-inch figures by Hasbro for the "Lightning Collection" toyline and most of the monsters that did get made into figures (most notably King Sphinx, Eye Guy and Pumpkin Rapper) were made into seven-inch tall figures that were out of scale with Power Rangers figures and had bad quality control problems, such as a lack of proper paint applications and details.
We, the fans, would like to see Playmates Toys make a set of two-packs pairing up the Power Rangers with a monster and to have the box art resemble the old VHS tapes of "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" from the 1990s. Two-pack ideas could include the original five two-packs from 1993 (Red Ranger with Goldar, Yellow Ranger with Bones, Blue Ranger with Pudgy Pig, Black Ranger with Knasty Knight, and Pink Ranger with Pineoctopus, respectively), the three VHS tapes from 1994 ("The Wanna-Be Ranger" with Primator, "Putty on the Brain" with Salaguana, and "Bloom of Doom" with the titled monster, respectively), or to include new two-pack pairings of the Rangers with a monster they fought with on the TV series (for example, pairing Red Ranger with King Sphinx, Blue Ranger with Madame Woe, and Pink Ranger with Terror Toad). Fans also hope to see a two-pack of Green Ranger with a monster, of White Ranger with a monster, or a two-pack of Green Ranger with White Ranger or the Wizard of Deception based on the "Return of the Green Ranger" three-part storyline.
Whatever Playmates Toys does with their "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" toyline, we, the fans, hop they will make some two-packs based on the 1993 VHS box covers for long-time fans to add to their collections.
