Equipment installed by parents for their children living in inadequate area was removed today September 29th by milton keynes council contactors supported by police . The equipment was safe, secure, and gave the children a place where they could be active, make friends, and grow their confidence. However, now that it's been taken away the impact on our children has been devastating. Coming home from school to see something you had that made living at granby court better as a child would be heartbreaking for any child.

Children deserve a safe place to play and grow, especially in neighborhoods where green spaces are scarce. Yet, despite parents efforts as a community to create a vibrant and safe play area for their children, the council has taken steps to dismantle what was built. This communal playground was not just a project of hope, but a necessity for children, who reside in flats and bedsits devoid of outdoor space in our local area.

The truth is, many families in our community live in cramped conditions where children lack access to their own gardens or backyards, making public play spaces all the more crucial. Together, residents pooled resources and dedicated countless hours to construct a playground where  children can play, learn, and forge friendships safely.

According to numerous studies, access to outdoor play areas is essential for the physical and mental wellbeing of children. Playgrounds provide more than just a place for fun – they are integral for physical exercise, social interaction, and cognitive development. Removing these spaces can be detrimental, leading to decreased physical activity and increased social isolation.

While we understand the council may have regulations to uphold, we urge them to see this issue through the eyes of the families affected. If the pre existing play area cannot be re erected, it is only fair that an alternative be provided right here in the heart of their community. No childs future should be compromised due to bureaucracy.

We call on the local council to either allow residents to re erect the community-funded playground or take prompt action in developing a suitable replacement within the communal area. This isn’t just about physical structures; it is about nurturing children's social and emotional health and safeguarding their right to play and grow in a supportive environment.
