PLANTING ROOTS OF HOPE: 1000 TREES IN EVERY COMMUNITY!
The Issue
Portuguese / Spanish / German / French / Italian
To the Mayors of all Communities,
We, citizens and environmental advocates, address you with this petition to urge the adoption of concrete actions for the conservation and promotion of trees in our Communities.
We recognize the crucial importance of trees for the environment, health, and quality of life of our citizens.
Trees provide vital oxygen, absorb carbon dioxide, mitigate climate, improve air quality, create habitats for wildlife, and contribute to the aesthetic beauty of our land.
However, we are deeply concerned about the ongoing loss of trees and forests due to deforestation, intensive agriculture, land consumption, unchecked urban development, and other human activities. This trend is having a devastating impact on the environment and biodiversity.
We ask the Mayors of all Communities to actively engage in tree planting within their territory. Specifically, we request the planting of at least 1000 trees in each Community by 2030.
Tree planting should be based on scientific criteria and prioritize native species adapted to the local climate and ecosystem. Additionally, we encourage the adoption of sustainable tree management practices, such as responsible pruning and proper maintenance.
We acknowledge that Mayors and local administrations have many responsibilities and challenges to face. However, tree conservation should be considered a priority for the well-being of our communities and future generations.
Therefore, we ask Mayors to take the following actions:
1) Plan and coordinate tree planting in collaboration with local experts and stakeholders.
2) Identify suitable areas for tree planting, such as parks, public gardens, schools, roads, and vacant urban spaces.
3) Actively involve citizens, schools, local organizations, and businesses in tree planting and care.
4) Promote the importance of trees and raise community awareness about the environmental and social benefits they provide.
5) Monitor and evaluate the effects of tree planting actions and share the results with the community.
We seek your commitment and leadership to protect and promote trees in our community.
With your action, we can create a better future and save our planet!
