As related last evening, our Committee expresses its collective grief over the senseless deaths of FBI Special Agents Laura Schwartzenberger and Daniel Alfin.  We do try to keep all of this in perspective during this time of mourning and realize that without the selfless acts that these two extraordinary professionals performed every day, along with the thousands of other law enforcement professionals, it would be impossible for each of us to otherwise engage in everyday political discourse while taking the security of our family and friends for granted.  Hence, we take this opportunity to send out an immense note of gratitude to the families of these brave agents and to every law enforcement professional in South Florida.

Last evening, the Plantation Planning + Zoning Board, following City of Plantation Planning + Zoning Staff’s recommendation, voted unanimously to DENY the Broward County School Board’s (through its agent, Lennar Homes) application for a land use plan amendment and zoning change to up-zone and increase the density of the Hiatus/Broward Boulevard parcel from 3du/acre to over 8.6 du/acre.  (INCREASING DENSITY FROM 39 HOMES TO 111 HOMES).

This result would not have occurred without your complete engagement and your resolute voices.  You have demonstrated patience and resilience through an extraordinarily arduous process and your appointed representatives heard you last night.  The journey continues to City Council in the next few weeks (ETA:  First reading to occur either in mid-February or early March 2021).   As discussed in earlier updates, the Applicant has the right to request the City Council to overturn the will of the people (that is YOU).  In order to do so, the Applicant hopes that each of you will become disengaged.  We know better.  Now, more than ever, it is vital that each of you reach out to your ELECTED representatives on City Council and let them know exactly how you feel about this potential project.  It is that important!

The following professional staff are vital in the process.  You can cc them on any emails you send to the council:
