On September 1, 2020 City of Plantation Planning & Zoning Staff Professional, in a forceful and well - reasoned, agreed with the community and determined the applications by BCSB and its agent, Lennar, should be denied.  On that same day, the Planning and Zoning Board agreed with the city zoning professionals and moved to table the applications as they were inconsistent with the underlying land use plan and the surrounding low density residential neighborhoods.  P&Z Board Chair Jeremy Wehby, in a well-reasoned and articulate motion restated the staff professionals' valid reasons for denial and strongly suggested that the applicant meet with the surrounding neighborhoods in order to arrive at a palatable residential density.  Instead, the applicant has thumbed its nose at city staff, the Planning & Zoning Board and the Community in not attempting to meet to arrive at a reasonable alternative plan.  Rather, there has been a nescient PR effort to gin up purchaser interest in the applicant's overly dense row townhome project by offering up fancy and potentially misleading renderings to prospective purchasers.  This effort to reach prospective purchasers is not in any way an attempt to meet with the Community or to satisfy the Community's legitimate objections (which were, in fact, sustained by our City's professional staff and the Planning & Zoning Board itself) to a fatally defective project.  It misses the mark and basically sends the message that the Planning & Zoning Board can be ignored and considered a simple "check in the box" along the way to City Council where the applicant seems to be taking its chances at a de novo review.  Such callous disregard to the hours of work our own City Professional planners devoted to this application and to considering the Community's opposition voices (in light of (now) over 1,100 (on and offline) citizen registered opposition votes on this petition) is an affront to local democracy and to the Community's right to be represented by professional staff and professionals volunteering their time on an important Planning & Zoning Board.  Why not stop at 110 units?  Why not a 44 story high rise?  Where do you even draw the line under the applicant's flawed rationale?  If you follow its strategy, simply hire a publicist and throw a lot of mud up on the Internet and see what sticks.  We believe our City is stronger and wiser than to feed on this PR nonsense.  Social media cannot replace true interaction and involvement of the Community.  Let the City know how you feel about this on December 1 and make your voice heard!
