The Issue

Predator Experience, in the Lake District National Park in Cumbria, is a unique animal and bird experience facility. All experiences are within a natural environment and have a conservation and educational purpose.

Predator Experience needs your support to save our cheetahs! Our initial retrospective planning application was refused by the Lake District National Park Authority, on subjective grounds of landscape impact. This decision was arrived at by the authority despite huge efforts with tree planting for mitigation, and despite clearing an unsightly storage yard, which was the lands previous use. The storage yard would have remained permanently, if the land had not been purchased by Predator Experience.

This petition is to help us be granted planning permission at the appeal stage. The appeal is for planning permission for change of use on the land and for an enclosure, which is currently housing our cheetahs. There are two males and one female. With us they are great ambassadors for their species. It would be disastrous, if the enclosure had to be taken down, and the cheetahs are forced to be moved on. These cheetahs were domestically bred within the UK, but were destined for an uncertain future, they arrived to us via the Czech Republic. There are fears that valuable bloodstock and their value to conservation would be lost, so we had to get them here quick! Wild cheetahs have suffered a ninety percent decrease in population since the early nineteenth century due to poaching, illegal trade and habitat loss and need our help. With your support for our planning appeal we can help to make a positive contribution towards wild cheetahs though education, and directly funding cheetah conservation.

Sadly at this moment in time, wild population of many endangered species relies, on ensuring there is a domestic population for the future. We believe that the issues that surrounds much of our global wildlife today is in our hands, as our own very existence depends on sustainable co-existence.

Predator Experience contributes to the local economy and benefits from a excellent reputation towards animal welfare and guests experience.

We care deeply for our cheetahs, please sign and help us save them!

Denise AshmanPetition StarterI live locally to the lido, and visited often as a child. I would use the lido if it were reinstated. The lido would be a great attraction for the area, which would boost economy in this area, which is desperate for diverse reasons for people to visit.
