I have been informed that unauthorised works are planned to tarmac a section of Public Footpath Newbury 5 (Warren Rd).  We need to show our strength of feeling against this to get it stopped as it is just one step closer to an access road.  Please send a copy of below to the following addresses - easy to do, just copy and paste into an email.  Thanks, Julie

I am objecting to the planned unauthorised works for Public Footpath Newbury 5 (Warren Road) and the intention to use tarmac to surface the public footpath this week.  I also object to any alterations to this footpath in any way, other than maintenance of it’s current state.   I ask for West Berkshire Council to prevent this planned unauthorised works. 

I also object to a West Berkshire Definitive Map Modification Order to add any forms of motorised vehicles to the Rights of Way of Public Footpath Newbury 5. 

The visual impact of the planned work would impact enormously on the surrounding environment, taking away the rural feel in an area where it is possible to demonstrate that public recreational use has taken place openly and freely for a sufficient period.  The footpath with its historic hedgerow can be viewed on the 1756/1761 John Rocque Map of Berkshire.  

The historical importance of Public Footpath Newbury 5, a route of historic significance connecting with ancient woodlands and wildlife, makes it eligible for Local Green Space Designation.

Therefore, it is requested that the West Berkshire Council Planning Authority urgently designate LGS status to this area as per paragraphs 99 to 101 of the NPPF.
