I wanted to start by thanking everyone who has signed and share this petition. A few people commented asking if this is real. Yes, it is real. I am a resident of Plainfield and have been for 21 years. Ever since I moved here, I have fished, kayaked and floated in the river. I love it, just like so many of you. Since Covid started last year there has been a significant increase in usage in all parts of the 28 mile stretch, which is great that people are getting out and enjoying nature. It has also meant more traffic, difficulty finding parking, more trash in and around the river, and other things that have struck a chord with some homeowners along the river. I have requested through the FOIA some of these complaints to see exactly what it is that these property owners are complaining about and what they want to see happen. Until then, I started this to bring some awareness to what’s going on and to let the public know that the IDNR is looking into these complaints as well. What will happen? I don’t know. But I can tell you that there’s a whole lot more people that want to keep it public than not. I will try my best to keep everyone up to date on any changes or information as I receive it.
