Native American history and culture has frequently been erased and forgotten. We believe its important to recognize the original inhabitants of the land and the world they lived in. Before any of us hiked Horn Pond or boated on it waters, indigenous Massachusett people did the same. They called it Innitou meaning  "Looking place of the Great Spirit." They lived here for generation after generation and they deserve to leave their mark on Woburn history. We petition that a sign explaining Woburn's Indigenous history is placed along the trails at Innitou (Horn Pond). We know it is possible as there are already signs placed explaining the pond's biodiversity. We hope this will be a starting point from which Woburn can further work to recognize its Indigenous past and what that means for us in the present.
