I just signed a petition online to oppose renaming the regional airport to something called CNCIA. I’m not opposed to renaming it, but Central North Carolina International Airport? Please. The Airport Authority has approved it, so maybe the horse is out of the barn. Anyway, I never liked PTI, either, for the same reason the current board doesn’t - what does it mean and does it have marketing legs? It never has, but CNCIA is much, much worse. Perhaps this is nothing worth caring about - obviously, our leaders have an identity crisis, a feeling of inferiority and thus no belief or confidence in the stature of Greensboro or Winston and definitely not High Point. Apparently it’s OK in North Carolina to have "CLT" and "RDU" but not "GSO" or "GWS." Back when, I favored a more compelling, inviting brand designation than PTI. If the board goes through with this atrocity, perhaps Raleigh should consider MENCIA Mid-Eastern N.C. International. Ugh. If the board thinks CNCIA is a marketing coup, that conclusion is delusional. Sorry for the affront, but the board must realize that simple beats complicated. This agenda fires no magic economic bullet rather, it’s a tragic misfire. Dick Toomey Greensboro
