Physicians United for Human Dignity (PUHD)
Global Coalition of Medical Professionals Against War Crimes

To the Leaders of the Global Medical and Humanitarian Community,

We, members of Physicians United for Human Dignity (PUHD) — a global coalition of healthcare professionals spanning numerous countries and regions — are compelled to raise our unified voice in response to an unspeakable atrocity.

On June 19, 2025, the Islamic Republic of Iran launched a targeted missile strike that deliberately struck a civilian hospital in Israel. This assault claimed innocent lives, including those of patients, physicians, nurses, and noncombatant civilians. This act represents not merely an escalation of hostilities, but a flagrant and intentional violation of international law and medical neutrality.

Hospitals are protected spaces under the Geneva Conventions. They are not battlegrounds. They are places of healing, refuge, and humanity. The bombing of a hospital is an unambiguous war crime — a crime against the very essence of civilized society.

We condemn this brutal act in the strongest possible terms.
We call on the World Health Organization, the World Medical Association, the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and all responsible international bodies to take immediate action:

  • Formally and publicly condemn the Iranian regime’s deliberate attack on Israeli medical facilities and civilians as a grave breach of international humanitarian law.
Suspend or expel Iran from all relevant international medical and humanitarian organizations until:
  • Full and fair reparations are made to the families of victims and to the medical institutions affected.
Iran acknowledges its responsibility and pledges future adherence to humanitarian principles.
  • Launch and support an international tribunal or referral to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to bring Iran’s leadership to justice for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed through the targeting of hospitals and civilian populations.
Provide emergency humanitarian aid, medical resources, and mental health support to the medical personnel and civilian victims affected by this act of terror.
  • The international medical community must not turn a blind eye. An attack on one hospital is an attack on all hospitals. An assault on civilian life is an assault on the conscience of the world.

We must act now — not only to honor those killed, but to prevent such crimes from being repeated. The preservation of human dignity and the integrity of medicine as a sacred, non-political force depends on our collective will to stand for justice.
