We Fought Crime in Our Neighborhoods Together

The Issue

The former 76 gas station on Mission at Walnut in Santa Cruz was the site of an illegal fencing operation for stolen bikes and technology, and both the station manager and an employee were arrested and sentenced for those crimes. Since then, the national brand has abandoned the station and the City worked to bring the station into compliance with local laws. The station has been sold and is now being remodeled into a Chevron station!!

Surrounding neighborhoods joined together to boycott and picket the gas station to force the changes we needed for our community. Too many of us had our bikes and mail stolen, or our homes and cars broken into.
