Bring More Service Providers to Phenix City- End CTVEA Beam's Monopoly

Bring More Service Providers to Phenix City- End CTVEA Beam's Monopoly
The Issue
For many years CTVEA (Cable TV of East Alabama) Beam has been a monopoly of cable services. Other providers (Spectrum, Mediacom, etc), are unable to provide services in the East Alabama/ Phenix City area due to them. When you call the other providers, they tell you it is due to CTVEA Beam. The local government is aware of the illegal monopoly, but continues to turn a blind eye and allow them to operate as such.
Having a hold on the cable industry in this area, prevents other businesses the ability to provide competition. CTVEA Beam controls the market in the area and the residents are suffering. We are forced to either go without cable and/or internet (which is nearly impossible with all the virtual schooling, meetings, etc.) or pay the overpriced prices. Currently, internet is $80 -$120 a month with them. It is unfair to residents who have to pay that, especially when other providers offer similar services for $45 monthly. Satellite providers (Dish Network and DirectTV) are allowed in the area, but satellite and cable are different.
Monopolies are illegal, but the local government is doing nothing to break up CTVEA Beam. The goal from this petition is to have the monopoly broken up and allow for healthy competition in the area.
