At first, I didn’t bring my father into this because I truly hoped this petition could stand on its own for the good of our community—especially to support fair treatment and protect our pet committee. But things have taken a turn.
Not only have my father (a U.S. Navy veteran and the primary leaseholder) and I been facing retaliation and discrimination, but here’s what happened most recently:
⚡ When our power went out, the very next day our landlord tried to force my father and me to let an unlicensed and inexperienced worker handle electrical work inside our apartment. We respectfully declined and told them we had already contacted El Paso Electric Company.
⏰ That same night, around 9 PM, El Paso Electric came to check the problem. They explained the issue wasn’t inside the apartment—it was with the breaker outside—and said management would have to fix it the next morning.
❌ Instead of addressing it immediately, we were left without electricity for two full days, even while the rest of the complex had power.
💸 Just two days later, management attempted to raise my rent. I fought it as best I could, but they forced it through anyway.
📞 My father and I have been trying every day to contact Texas RioGrande Legal Aid for help, but for a whole week their phone system kept me stuck at “number 31 in line,” no matter the time of day. We’ve gotten nowhere.
🐾 On top of this, I had even offered to purchase pet insurance to keep pet sitting responsibly. Instead of letting me do that, management has now enforced it across the board—whether tenants even own pets or not.
