Petiton for Indian Govt. to Unban AliExpress and other Chinese eCommerce services in India
The Issue
The Current Situation
we are respectfully requesting the Govt. of India (MeitY) to review the continued ban on global Ecommerce platforms like AliExpress and similar services while the ban was intended to protect national interests, the ground reality for the Indian tech community has become increasingly difficult
The "Innovation Tax" on Indian Makers-
for millions of Indian consumers including engineering students, electronics hobbyists, small repair shops, and DIY enthusiasts these platforms were the primary source for:
- affordable niche Products: unique controller board, microcontrollers, and ICs.
- essential Tools: specialized soldering equipment, precision tools, and testing gear
- spare parts: components for repairing older electronics that are otherwise destined for landfills/Ewaste
- prototyping materials: Low-cost items needed for R&D and small-scale startups
Since 2020 these products have become significantly more expensive The middle men and resellers often charge 3x to 5x the original price for the exact same items basically taxing it
A Request for Regulated Access-
We fully support national security, data privacy, and regulatory compliance this petition is not asking for "blind access" instead we are asking for a fair regulated review of the policy that includes:
- data protection: ensuring platforms comply with india’s latest data residency laws.
- Tax enforcement: Streamlined the customs and GST collection
- security checks: strict oversight to ensure no compromise on national safety
Conclusion
india is a rising global tech power to sustain this growth, our students and makers need affordable access to the global component market we urge the Govt. to consider a safe, regulated path for reintroducing these platforms to foster a culture of R&D and Making in India
