The Issue

It’s been a shameful few weeks for Canada after our House of Commons gave a standing ovation to a Nazi SS veteran during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Sept. 22 visit to Canada.

But that’s not all we have to be ashamed of.

Nearly four decades have passed since the government launched an investigation into Canada’s admission of Nazis into the country post-Holocaust – yet it still refuses to fully reveal its findings. Its records include the 1986 Deschênes Commission final report, the key conclusions of which remain redacted.

Such a lack of transparency and accountability is unacceptable. The government must unseal all such records and demonstrate that Canada will no longer hide this shameful chapter from its own citizens.
