Everyone who has supported this campaign has contributed towards Surrey County Council agreeing that they could not ignore the issue of Speeding on Cottimore Lane any longer and have agreed to install two vehicle activated signs on the road.
The process of gathering momentum for this campaign has been grueling for many, many reasons, but it is absolutely brilliant to see some of the hard work finally pay off!
Thank you very much again to everyone, especially those who messaged to wish me luck for the presentation today, it really means a lot.

HOW EFFECTIVE ARE VEHICLE ACTIVATED SIGNS?
We found the following from Trafficchoices.co.uk :
“…Specifically for roads with lower speed limits (30 or 40 mph), Vehicle-activated signs have shown increased effectiveness, and reduced accidents by 34%...”
WHAT ARE VEHICLE ACTIVATED SIGNS?
The Surrey County Council website advises:
“…Vehicle activated signs (VAS) are a useful and cost-effective road safety intervention. They light up to warn drivers of hazards or to remind them of the speed limit if they are approaching too fast.
As of 2023, there are approximately 650 VAS in Surrey including on the approach to nearly all our speed cameras.
Monitoring shows VAS helps drivers keep to the speed limit and this effect is on-going.
The VAS used in Surrey are programmed to light up when a car travels faster than a set threshold. So, they only display to the drivers who need them most.
We do not use the "smiley face/sad face" or the "your speed" type of VAS because they light up for every driver, eventually becoming part of the background and likely to be ignored…”
