THE RECENT INCIDENT AT GOVINDA’S: A WAKE-UP CALL

On July 20, 2025, an individual deliberately desecrated ISKCON London's Govinda's restaurant for social media content, exposing our temple's critical security vulnerabilities to the world. This calculated act of disrespect occurred without any trained response, sending a dangerous message that our sacred spaces can be violated without consequence.
This cannot happen again!

THE PROBLEM WE FACE
Despite ISKCON London's substantial annual income, our temple remains dangerously vulnerable:

Current weaknesses:
- No trained security presence during peak vulnerability periods
- Reliance on untrained volunteers unable to manage serious incidents
- Inadequate deterrence against calculated acts of disrespect
- Exposure of Deities, devotees, and guests to potential threats
- Damaged reputation and community confidence

The cost of inaction: Every day without proper security risks another incident that could further damage our movement's reputation and compromise the safety of our spiritual community.

OUR SOLUTION: PRACTICAL AND IMMEDIATE
We demand the immediate implementation of a comprehensive security enhancement plan:

1. PROFESSIONAL VOLUNTEER TEAM
- Establish a formal "Temple Protection Volunteer Team" with dedicated devotees
- Provide mandatory professional training in conflict de-escalation, security awareness, first aid, and legal boundaries
- Create clear identification and authority structure for volunteers
- Implement retention strategies including recognition programs and advancement opportunities

2. STRATEGIC PROFESSIONAL COVERAGE
- Hire two part-time SIA-licensed security guards for peak vulnerability periods
- Prioritize qualified devotees who understand our spiritual principles
- Ensure 7-day professional coverage during critical hours (35 hours total per week)
- Focus resources on Govinda's restaurant and main temple areas

3. ENHANCED DETERRENCE
- Conduct comprehensive security risk assessment
- Optimize existing CCTV systems and eliminate blind spots
- Install clear signage establishing rules and consequences
- Develop detailed Standard Operating Procedures for all staff

4. LEADERSHIP ACCOUNTABILITY
- Appoint a Protection Initiative Lead for program oversight
- Establish monthly security committee reviews
