As a funeral director, I have witnessed firsthand the importance of our role in providing comfort and support to grieving families. However, the lack of regulation for independent funeral directors can lead to inconsistencies in service quality and potential exploitation of vulnerable individuals. In the UK alone, there are approximately 4,000 funeral director businesses operating (source: National Association of Funeral Directors). Yet not all are subject to regulatory standards. This is a call for all independent funeral directors to be regulated by an appropriate governing body. Such regulation would ensure that every bereaved family receives professional and compassionate service during their time of need.
