The Issue

Petition to Investigate and Suspend AfriForum for Spreading Misinformation and Undermining South Africa’s Democracy

To: The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), Parliament of South Africa, and International Human Rights Organizations

Subject: Request for Investigation, Deregistration, and Social Media Suspension of AfriForum

We, the undersigned citizens and supporters of democracy, justice, and equality, call upon relevant authorities to investigate and take action against AfriForum for its role in spreading misinformation, fuelling racial tensions, and lobbying against South Africa’s sovereignty on international platforms. AfriForum’s actions undermine our democracy, economy, and social cohesion, posing a direct threat to the well-being of our nation.

Concerns Regarding AfriForum’s Activities:

  • Dissemination of Racist Misinformation – AfriForum has consistently pushed narratives that distort historical and contemporary realities in South Africa, fuelling racial division and tension.
  • Undermining National Interests – The group has engaged in lobbying international entities to impose sanctions on South Africa, harming the country's global reputation and economic prospects.
  • Opposition to Democratic Transformation – AfriForum actively resists policies aimed at economic redress and equality, working to maintain systemic inequalities.

Incitement and Hate Speech – Through their statements and campaigns, they have emboldened far-right elements, encouraging division instead of reconciliation.

Our Demands:

  • Investigation by the SAHRC into AfriForum’s activities to determine whether they constitute hate speech, incitement, or violations of constitutional principles.
  • Deregistration as a Non-Profit Organization (NPO) if found to be operating in ways that contradict the public good.
  • Stronger regulation of their media presence by ICASA, ensuring that false or racially divisive content is removed from public platforms.
  • Suspension of their social media accounts for spreading misinformation and hate speech, in line with community standards on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter/X, and YouTube.
  • Global awareness campaigns urging international human rights organizations to recognize and denounce AfriForum’s harmful activities.

We urge the South African government, regulatory bodies, and the international community to take a firm stand against AfriForum’s divisive agenda. South Africa must move forward in unity, justice, and equality, free from groups that seek to undermine our progress.

Sign this petition and stand against racism, misinformation, and economic sabotage!
