Subject: Request to Reconsider the Snow Clearing Contract Decision

For more than 20 years, T&D Enterprises has proudly provided snow clearing services to the community of Petty Harbour, helping keep our roads accessible and our community moving through Newfoundland's harsh winter conditions.

For over two decades, this local business has served the community, building relationships, gaining experience with our roads, and demonstrating a commitment to the place they call home.

This year, the Town Council has made the decision to award the snow clearing contract to a company reportedly located approximately 30 minutes away.

We, the undersigned residents, taxpayers, business owners, and supporters, are disappointed by this decision and are calling on Town Council to provide answers and reconsider its decision.

Our concerns include:

Supporting Local Businesses: Local businesses are the backbone of small communities. After more than 20 years of service, we believe T&D Enterprises deserves fair consideration and recognition for its longstanding contribution.

Response Times and Public Safety: Newfoundland winters can be unpredictable. We want reassurance that the selected contractor can respond promptly during snowstorms, emergencies, and rapidly changing road conditions.

Knowledge of Local Roads: A contractor with more than two decades of experience clearing our roads has valuable familiarity with the community, its terrain, and its winter challenges.

Transparency and Accountability: As residents and taxpayers, we deserve to understand how this decision was reached, what criteria were used, and whether local experience, response times, and community impact were adequately considered.

Community Loyalty: We believe that when a local company has dedicated more than 20 years to serving its community, that history should carry meaningful weight in decisions affecting its future.

WHAT WE ARE ASKING
We respectfully call upon the Mayor and Town Council of Petty Harbour–Maddox Cove to:

Reconsider the decision to award the snow clearing contract to an outside company, subject to applicable procurement rules and contractual obligations.

Provide a clear explanation of the evaluation process and the factors that influenced the decision.

Explain how emergency response times and public safety will be maintained with a contractor based approximately 40 minutes away.

Recognize the value of local businesses and their longstanding contributions when making future municipal contracting decisions.
