Petition to Stop the Development of the IAA Auto Auction Yard in Our Community

Petition to Stop the Development of the IAA Auto Auction Yard in Our Community
The Issue
To: The Chesterfield Township Officials We, the undersigned residents of Chesterfield Township, strongly oppose the proposed development of the IAA Auto Auction Yard near our homes. This project poses significant threats to the health, safety, and well-being of our community, as well as to the local environment. Our concerns include, but are not limited to: 1. Environmental Hazards: An auto auction yard WILL contribute to soil and water contamination due to leaking oils, gasoline, chemicals, and other pollutants. This poses a serious risk to nearby water sources, local ecosystems, and public health. 2. Aesthetic and Property Value Impacts: An auto auction yard is visually unappealing and WILL decrease property values in the surrounding area, discouraging potential home buyers and future development. The visual blight, noise pollution, and increased industrial activity WILL make our neighborhood less desirable and hurt the financial well-being of residents. 3. Noise Pollution: The operation of an auto auction yard WILL involve frequent truck traffic, loud machinery, and general operational noise, disrupting the peace and quiet of our residential area. 4. Air Quality Concerns: Increased emissions from trucks and other vehicles associated with the auto auction yard WILL degrade air quality, negatively impacting residents' health, particularly children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions. 5. Traffic and Safety Risks: The increased volume of trucks and other vehicles in our area poses safety concerns for pedestrians, children, cyclists, and local drivers, as well as exacerbating traffic congestion. 6. Impact on Quality of Life: Our community thrives on its peaceful, residential character. The proposed development is incompatible with the character of our community, it WILL disrupt the tranquility of our neighborhood, introducing constant noise, unsightly views, and foul odors that will negatively impact our daily lives. 7. Better Land Use Alternatives: There are more suitable locations for the IAA Auto Auction Yard, such as industrial or commercial zones, that would not intrude on residential communities. Furthermore, the proposed site could be repurposed for community-centered projects such as nurseries, greenhouses, parks, recreational facilities, or small businesses that align with our neighborhood’s character. These alternative land uses WILL bring in a greater tax revenue for our community as a whole! We urge you to consider alternative locations for this project that are better suited to industrial use and less intrusive to residential neighborhoods. We respectfully request: • A public hearing to allow residents to voice their concerns and provide input. • A thorough environmental impact study to assess the potential damage to our community and natural resources. Baseline testing for soil, water, and air quality. • A reconsideration of zoning approvals for this project to ensure the welfare of our neighborhood is prioritized. • Transparent and inclusive dialogue between local officials and community members to find alternative solutions that respect the integrity of our neighborhood. We, the undersigned, stand united in opposition to the development of the IAA Auto Auction Yard in our community and respectfully ask for your support in protecting our homes, health, and environment. Signatures of Concerned Residents: We believe that protecting the well-being, safety, and property values of Chesterfield Township should take precedence over industrial development that benefits a select few at the expense of many. By signing this petition, we declare our firm opposition to the development of the IAA Auto Auction Yard at 25 Mile and Bates Road and urge our local officials to act in the best interests of their constituents.
