PETITION TO STOP REZONING OF WETLANDS AT ROUND POND ROAD
PETITION TO STOP REZONING OF WETLANDS AT ROUND POND ROAD
The Issue
Petition to Ensure Proper Due Diligence Before Rezoning Wetlands at Round Pond Road
We, the undersigned, formally oppose the proposed rezoning of 33–43A/B Round Pond Road to Residential Small Lot (RSL) until the Town completes rigorous environmental reviews, provides full transparency to the public, and proves this development won’t harm our wetlands and community. This petition is about ensuring irreversible decisions aren’t made without proper due diligence.
Key Concerns Needing Resolution
1. Incomplete Environmental Assessment
- Current hydrological maps treat Maggie’s Place, Round Pond, and Gough’s Gully wetlands as isolated systems, despite evidence they are interconnected.
- Rezoning should not proceed without:
- A professional wetland delineation.
- An independent Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to evaluate risks of flooding, habitat loss, and downstream effects on Neary’s Pond.
2. Lack of Public Transparency
- The rezoning involves land previously marked for structured planning (RDSA). If development plans exist, residents deserve the opportunity to review them before decisions are finalized.
- We call for clear, accessible communication from the municipality about the process and criteria for such requests.
3. Unaddressed Infrastructure Risks
- Stormwater:High-density housing could overwhelm the wetland watershed. A comprehensive stormwater management plan must be completed first.
- Traffic:No study has demonstrated that Round Pond Road can safely accommodate increased congestion.
Our Goal
This petition is not about opposition for its own sake—it’s about advocating for responsible planning. Wetlands are ecologically sensitive, and their protection ensures long-term benefits for our community. By signing, you’re supporting:
✔ Science-based decision-making (proper environmental studies).
✔ Transparency (public access to plans and data).
✔ Sustainable growth (avoiding irreversible harm to our natural spaces).
Every Voice Counts
Let’s work together to ensure our Town’s future is shaped by careful consideration, not rushed changes. Sign to show your support for due diligence and preserving what makes our community special.
