Moroccan security and public safety are of paramount concern to us all. The last AFCON (Africa Cup of Nations) final hosted in Morocco revealed a deeply troubling situation where the safety of Moroccan citizens was severely compromised, both within the stadium and beyond its walls. This petition urges the Confederation of African Football (CAF), The Moroccan government and any authority in Morocco to reconsider Morocco as a host country for future AFCON tournaments to prevent any recurrence of such unsettling events.

During the recent AFCON final, numerous reports surfaced detailing alarming incidents where fans were caught in dangerous situations which could have been disastrous. Outside the stadium, similar chaos ensued, posing risks to public safety and tarnishing the reputation of Morocco on an international stage.

As Moroccans, we respectfully express our refusal to host AFCON tournaments again. Football should remain a sport played on the field, free from political, historical, cultural, or religious hate speech. In recent events, Morocco has faced unfounded claims, accusations and narratives related and unrelated to football, made without evidence or proof. We believe it is in Morocco’s best interest to step back from hosting AFCON and allow other nations the opportunity, while preserving the values of fairness, respect, and sportsmanship. 

By choosing not to hold future AFCON games in Morocco, we are prioritizing the well-being of our citizens and our global image.
