Petition to Sing the Australian National Anthem During Assemby

The issue

At our school (Canberra Grammar School), assemblies bring students and teachers together as a community. However, without singing the Australian National Anthem, we miss an important opportunity to show respect for our country, its values, and its history. Many students and teachers feel that not including the anthem diminishes our sense of unity and national pride. Schools across Australia make it a priority to sing the anthem, reinforcing a shared identity, and we believe our school should do the same.

If this continues, we risk weakening our connection to our national heritage and the principles that Australia stands for. Singing the anthem is a simple yet powerful way to express respect and gratitude for the freedoms and opportunities we have. By making this a part of our assemblies, we can foster a stronger sense of belonging and national unity among students and staff.

Now is the time to act. Schools play a vital role in shaping the values of young Australians, and ensuring the anthem is sung at assemblies will help instill respect and patriotism in students. We urge the school leadership to implement this change and make the Australian National Anthem a regular part of our assemblies. Sign this petition to show your support and help strengthen our school’s commitment to national pride!
