"Save Chinatown! Stop Sydney Council’s Undemocratic, Disruptive Corporate Takeover!"

The City of Sydney Council has rammed through disruptive, superficial changes to Dixon Street in Chinatown—without real consultation. Over 95% of local businesses and stakeholders were ignored, left completely in the dark while the Council catered to a handful of wealthy landlords and multinational corporations. We had formed a community group a collective of local stakeholders, and had to communicate to council for over 6months to no avail. This isn’t democracy—it’s backroom deals with big money, betraying the very community they claim to "improve."

The Council’s plan is a costly, noisy disaster—blocking off narrow streets for years to come, driving away visitors, and delivering almost zero aesthetic benefit. Meanwhile, the real stakeholders, the people who breathe life into Chinatown, will suffer and people's livelihood will be destroyed.

We demand:

Scrap the wasteful, destructive paving plan—it’s a vanity project that will cost the taxpayers millions, not a community upgrade.

 Keep essential improvements (lighting, public art, new furniture, removal of trees) without the chaos.

 A REAL consultation—one that actually includes the businesses and residents who make Chinatown thrive.
