Petition to review the unexpected dismissal of Edgar González
The Issue
It is with great sadness and shock that we have heard of the dismissal of the Associate Dean of Design Edgar González, who we consider to be the heart and brain of the Bachelor in Design.
The Bachelor in Design has been one of the fastest growing degrees at the University, growing tenfold in the six years of its existence. The face and driver of this success has been Edgar González, who is not only a great professional but also an amazing mentor, who has created a unique program with a holistic approach to design, providing us not only with the tools to work in very different fields but, what is more important and one of the big assets of the program, with a thinking method to confront any brief or working challenge. He has been vital for presenting the Design degree across continents to position it globally, introducing us students to a network of incredible design professionals who are now aware of IE’s institution. On top of that, he has dedicated his time to his students, always listening to our concerns and helping us become better designers and people.
As a student, parent, alumnus and faculty, and for the sake of the Bachelor of Design program and its potential future students of this uniquely designed degree, we urgently ask IE university to reconsider their decision, as Edgar has played a fundamental role in the development of this program. The degree under his care has been a driving force in the design field and his vital contributions will continue to be crucial in order to sustain it.
This petition has been made as the result of a collaborative effort by the 4th year Bachelor in Design graduates.
