This petition reflects the support of neighboring residents and businesses for the retention of the existing sign lighting at Vyoone’s Restaurant. The existing  fixtures were changed with the encouragement and support of neighboring residents and businesses to improve visibility and safety in the area and wayfinding.

Vyoone’s Restaurant is a locally owned, independent business in New Orleans for 7 years and whose exterior lighting is an integral part of its character, visibility, and neighborhood charm.

The current light fixtures serves various purposes:

Enhance safety and visibility for pedestrians by providing necessary illumination for public safety and visibility.

We are aware of the many issues with theft and looting prior to the fixtures being changed and issues with previous fixtures after mild winds causing safety issue and damaging signs. Since the lights have been changed  these issues have resolved and new no incidences have been noted. 

Contribute to the unique ambiance that locals and visitors associate with Vyoone’s! And does not detract from or alter the defining historic features of the structure.

The current fixtures:

Do not appear to obscure or alter character defining architectural exterior features

Provide appropriate illumination for public safety and wayfinding. The existing light provide a safe path for guests in locating the business and its entrance in a safe and unobtrusive manner. Since installed patrons have reported ease in identifying business and point of entry especially after dark.

Vyoones is a "home away  from home" for us neighbors and  we respectfully request that city officials allow Vyoone’s to retain its existing light fixtures at the restaurant sign. 

Removal or replacement of the current fixtures would impose an unnecessary hardship on a locally owned small business.

We respectfully request that the HDLC allow Vyoone’s Restaurant to maintain the current light fixtures at its sign, recognizing that they seem consistent with the character of the district and do not compromise historic integrity.

 Requiring removal or replacement would negatively impact the business without providing a clear public benefit.

Please allow Vyoone’s to keep its current light fixtures.
