Petition to Restore Subsidized Meals at INL Cafeteria

The Issue

We, the undersigned students, faculty, and staff of INL, hereby petition the management of Restopolis to reinstate subsidized meals in the cafeteria. The recent decision to discontinue these subsidies has adversely affected our community, and we believe it is essential to revert to the previous system for the following reasons:

Time Constraints:

Our lunch breaks are limited to just 20 minutes, leaving little time to venture outside the institute premises for meals. Receiving subsidized meals on-site ensures that we can efficiently utilize this short break without compromising our nutritional needs.

Affordable Social Space:

The cafeteria has been more than just a place to eat; it has served as an inexpensive hub of conviviality for colleagues. It fosters interactions, discussions, and a sense of community among students, faculty, and staff. Removing subsidized meals jeopardizes this valuable social space.

Unfair Burden on Students:

While we acknowledge that fraud occurred and non-affiliated individuals took advantage of the subsidies, it is crucial to recognize that students were not responsible for this breach. Penalizing students by eliminating subsidies is unjust. Instead, we propose targeted measures to prevent future misuse.

Enhanced Control Measures:

To address the issue of fraud, we recommend implementing stricter control mechanisms:

- Mandatory Presentation of INL Student Cards: Require all patrons to present their valid INL student cards to avail subsidized meals. This simple step will ensure that only eligible individuals benefit from the subsidy.
- Regular Audits and Oversight: Conduct periodic audits to verify eligibility and prevent abuse of the system.
- Transparent Communication: Clearly communicate the importance of adhering to the rules and consequences for fraudulent behavior.

Financial Considerations:

We understand that managing subsidies involves financial implications. However, investing in the well-being and satisfaction of the INL community is equally vital. The benefits of subsidized meals extend beyond cost savings—they contribute to a positive campus experience.

Conclusion: We urge the management of Restopolis to reconsider the decision and restore subsidized meals promptly. By doing so, INL will continue to foster a supportive environment where students, faculty, and staff can thrive.
