Justice for Pauline,Louise, and the search for Sheriff Buford Pusser's other victims.
Good Morning, I am reaching out to all news media and officials on the behalf of members of the Hathcock Family, like minded citizens of Tennessee, America, and the entire Earth.
Please, have ask the State of Tennessee to reopen the Louise Hatchcock Homicide. It was ruled as a justifiable homicide, in favor of Sheriff Buford Pusser. However then District Attorney Will Terry Abernathy did not present the Autopsy Report, nor all the evidence to the Grand Jury. Louise was shot twice in the back and once in the head as she was lying flat out on the floor. Witnesses, including Buford’s own Chief Deputy Jim Moffett, claim they heard the e shots from Bufords 41 .Magnum, before the quieter Crack of Louise's 38 special.

Petition to Reopen the Homicide Investigation of Laura Louise Anderson Hathcock
To:
- Mark E. Davidson, District Attorney General, 25th Judicial District of Tennessee
- Federal Bureau of Investigation
- Tennessee Bureau of Investigation
Petition Statement
We, the undersigned, call upon the 25th Judicial District Attorney General, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to reopen and fully investigate the February 1, 1966, killing of Laura Louise Anderson Hathcock. We demand a transparent review of all evidence—especially the long-suppressed autopsy report—and a modern forensic and legal assessment to determine whether this was truly a justifiable homicide or a cold-blooded murder.
Background
Mrs. Hathcock was involved in some criminal activities, however, she was good to the 3 adopted children she raised, and often times helped the poor, and folks in need. Deep down she was a complicated person, with both a good side, shrewd businesswoman side, and sometimes violent criminal side. She was no master mind criminal, she just used bootleg whiskey and beer, and some small illegal gambling, like the Razzle Game and a few slot machines to help make ends meet. This was a very rural area of the South, the Alcorn, County, Mississippi, and McNairy County TN areas, with little, manufacturing, infrastucture, or businesses. The one thing it did have going for it was Highway 45, which was a main Route from Chicago, all the way to the Gulf, before the interstate system. This meant that money could be made from, resturants, motels, night clubs, truck stops, and gas stations along the Mississippi Tennessee state line. If you added a few vices, and ways for folks to have fun, tourists, travelers, truckers, and even locals looking for a bit of fun and to cut loose, would spend some time and money there. I am not denying that, Mrs. Hathcock liked to drink and get wild, and wasn't making money from all these legal and illegal activites on the state line, but that does not mean, she should have been murdered, in cold blood, by the very Sheriff she was paying each month for, information, protection, and other things he did to aid her business and vices.
On February 1, 1966, Laura Louise Anderson Hathcock (born March 19, 1919; age 46) was the proprietor of the Shamrock Motel and Restaurant located at the Tennessee-Mississippi state line. McNairy County Sheriff Buford Hayse Pusser, accompanied by deputies Jim Moffett and Peatie Plunk, arrived to serve warrants for theft and illegal possession of whiskey. Hathcock invited Pusser into Room 1. Moments later, witnesses outside reported hearing Pusser’s .41 Magnum discharge before hearing Hathcock’s snub-nose .38 Special.
The official narrative—presented to a grand jury by District Attorney Abernathy—claimed Hathcock fired first at the sheriff and that Pusser returned fire in self-defense, leading to her death. No autopsy findings were ever introduced, and the grand jury ruled the shooting justifiable without considering crucial forensic evidence.
Contrary to the self-defense claim, the original autopsy report documents that Hathcock was shot twice in the back and, while lying on the floor, received a final, fatal shot to the head. Leading critics—including researcher Mike Elam and members of the Hathcock family such as Barbara Drewery Bivins—have long questioned why this report was withheld and how the grand jury could reach its conclusion without it. Mike Elam’s detailed review of state documents, FBI files, and the autopsy underscores that the legend of “self-defense” may be more fiction than fact.
1. Reopen and transfer the Hathcock case to an impartial prosecutor’s office.
2. Unseal and release the full autopsy report, grand jury minutes, and any related DA files.
3. Commission a forensic review by independent pathologists and ballistics experts.
4. Conduct new witness interviews, including deputies Moffett, Plunk, and any surviving bystanders.
5. Pursue criminal charges if evidence supports that Sheriff Pusser committed murder rather than acted in self-defense.
Demand a Federal Investigation into Alleged Corruption and Abuse of Power by Sheriff Buford Pusser.
We believe justice delayed is justice denied. By signing, you stand with the Hathcock family and all Tennesseans who deserve truth, transparency, and accountability from those sworn to uphold the law.
I stand with the Hathcock family and urge a full, unbiased reinvestigation.
